_History
The De La Salle Basketball Club, established in 1998 by Brother Gerry Barrett, is based at Oakleigh Recreation Centre, Oakleigh, The Club draws players form De La Salle College and any other boy wishing to play social basketball on a Friday night. As this is social level basketball, there is no training or paid coaches. Parents are asked to assist with coaching, ensuring that court time is equal and with scoring each week,
We offer boys the chance to play social basketball for Junior level with competition, U/12 through to U/18 teams. The Basketball Club would like to welcome any new player who would like to play basketball.
The Club is structured as a non-profit Incorporated Association, with a volunteer Committee made up of player’s parents.
The Brother Gerry Shield has been established for the winners of each basketball season grand finalists and will be displayed at the De La Salle College.
We will NOT accept unsportsmanlike behaviour ON or OFF the court from our players, coaches or parents – we will enforce a code of conduct. Our players and parents must respect the opposition and the referees. We ask the boys to play the game in a positive and sportsmanlike manner.
We aim to have up to 8 players in each team. This is the best number to ensure every one gets reasonable court time, however from time to time this may be difficult. The DLS Basketball Club prides itself on organising teams around friendships and the inevitable fun and long term memories that follow.
Our aim:
1.To provide equal opportunity of access to the sport of basketball, to both players and non-players alike, in the local community - regardless of age, sex, race, colour or religion.
2..Our goal is participation and giving everyone a go, regardless of basketball experience.
